BJ&K Construction's Management Team is compiled of industry veterans who have always risen to the challenges. Their combined experience provides a solid foundation to lead the company in any situation and a broad range of knowledge allowing us to rise to the challenges in an ever changing environment. They set the high standards for which our employees relentlessly follow and continually lead our company to be second to none.
MICHAEL K. RUNYAN, PRESIDENT & CEO
A graduate of Auburn University, Michael started working with the Frank J. Rooney Company in Fort Lauderdale in 1971. Michael was Vice President of Marketing and Government Projects for Frank J. Rooney when the entrepreneurial spirit got the best of him and he started his own construction company in 1981, building numerous commercial and governmental projects. Following a market trend that began to emerge as a viable fit, he went on to start BJ&K Construction, Inc. in 1995 to focus on multi-family type construction.
As President and CEO of BJ&K Construction, Inc., Michael directs much of his attention to the future goals of the corporation, all the while making sure his executive and management team are providing the level of service and professionalism that he has come to expect out of them. It is his focus on the key elements that has made BJ&K one of the most successful General Contractors in South Florida.
LEIF J. SHEEHAN, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
A Certified General Contractor and a native of Fort Lauderdale, Leif graduated with honors from the M. E. Rinker School of Building Construction at the University of Florida. His construction background was well established by working for some of the most widely respected general contractors in South Florida. Leif's diverse experience includes precast stadiums, international airports, educational lab facilities, class "A" office buildings, industrial warehouses, storage facilities, multi-family low and mid-rise buildings, and retail construction.
Leif excelled as Vice President of Operations for BJ&K Construction, Inc. from January 2001 through 2009. He has taken to his new leadership role as Executive Vice President with all of the same tenacity as in his previous position, assuming a broader range of responsibility including that of business development. His belief that one can realize success and minimize risk by paying attention to the details continually keeps him pushing the company and its employees to "do it better".
BRAD A. RUNYAN, VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS
After graduating from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, Brad returned home to South Florida and for the next four years worked with two large national construction companies. His experiences include the construction of a 100,000 S.F. retail mall and a 45 story condo building.
Brad joined BJ&K Construction in 2003 as a project manager and quickly showed his peers his strong work ethic, personal integrity, and problem solving skills. Since joining BJ&K, he has successfully completed numerous mid-rise multi-family projects, and was constantly striving to exceed our client's expectations.
As Vice President of Operations, Brad's focus is to continuously improve the quality of our work and to share this dedication with our clients, all the while providing our employees with the resources and tools necessary to keep BJ&K Construction one of the most successful General Contractors in South Florida.
JULIE M. RUNYAN, VICE PRESIDENT
Julie Runyan has over 28 years experience inside the corporate accounting world, making her very astute and proficient in her position overseeing BJ&K's accounting department.
Julie moved from Michigan to South Florida in 1977 and worked as a legal secretary until joining her husband in the South Florida construction market. Julie learned first hand starting from the ground up how to assemble the accounting department of a construction company, and now, with the combination of extensive knowledge and background in the accounting and financial aspects of the business, she presides over one of the very best accounting departments in the business. Under her direction, BJ&K's accounting department excels at subcontract control, job cost management, HUD labor relations, and tax credit reporting.
KAREN HOLSTON, CFO & TREASURER
Karen Holston is one of many loyal and dedicated employees of BJ&K Construction. Karen was raised in a suburb outside of Rochester, New York and graduated from the University at Buffalo State University of New York with a bachelor's degree in Accounting and Business Finance in 1985. After moving to South Florida in 1987, Karen worked in public accounting prior to coming to work with BJ&K Construction at its inception.
As CFO and Treasurer of BJ&K Construction, Karen keeps an ever watchful eye on our current financial position and solid future, which has enabled the company to meet the ever changing demands of the industry, achieve far reaching goals, and succeed.
STEPHEN J. WOOD, VICE PRESIDENT OF ESTIMATING
Stephen (Steve) has worked in the South Florida construction market for over 35 years and has weathered the many changes in the industry during that time. He has gained his extensive background by working his way through the ranks. He started as a general laborer and moved up the ladder as carpenter, carpenter foreman, project superintendent, project manager, estimator, chief estimator and today as the Vice President of Estimating for BJ&K Construction. As one of the first employees of BJ&K, Steve has been an integral part of the company and its success.
Steve has a vast knowledge of the industry through his hands on experience working on a wide array of projects such as waste water treatment plants, retail, banks, multi-family low and mid-rise buildings, schools, dormitories, auto dealerships, HUD funded projects, assisted living facilities, and LEED accredited projects. Steve has invaluable knowledge of the construction industry and a strong background in preconstruction services. He clearly understands the concept of the term “Team” and starts by working hand and hand with the owner, design team, and subcontractors, ultimately leading to accurate preconstruction budgeting and delivering a final, on budget project.
BOBBY B. BELLINGER, LEED AP, CHIEF ESTIMATOR
Bobby graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Science. While in school, he began working for one of the top rated general contractors in Birmingham, Alabama where he was introduced to mid-rise residential construction. He continued his tenure with the company after college where he gained valuable field experience by working on numerous hi-rise condominium, hotel and resort projects along the gulf coast of Northwest Florida. Bobby found his niche when he was moved into their main office to begin estimating on a diverse range of projects including educational, religious, governmental, commercial and residential projects.
Bobby relocated to South Florida in 2002 and joined BJ&K Construction where he has worked as Senior Estimator through 2009 when he was promoted to Chief Estimator. He obtained his LEED Accredited Professional certification in 2008 which has helped him stay up to date on sustainable construction practices and GREEN standards. As Chief Estimator, his attention to detail, dedication, and team approach will continue to ensure successful construction projects.
